The Hip-Hop producer owes the US government well over $700,000 in unpaid taxes.
TMZ recently revealed the exact figure that Garrett owes. Despite a successful career in the music industry, Garrett failed to pay taxes for the years 2006 and 2007. He currently owes a total of $732,553.57. The figures are taken from reports filed by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
The BMI, the institution which collects royalties for artists, has been ordered to turn over all Garrett’s earnings to the government, in order to cover Garrett’s vast tax back payment.
Garrett has worked with some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop, including Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Usher. The hit producer has produced 15 number one hits over the course of his music career, and recently contributed to Minaj’s Massive Attack, which is featured on her album, Pink Friday.
Garrett also signed to Roc Nation/Columbia in 2010, following rumours that he had inked a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Records.
