When cousins Taylah P. and Kelci found themselves bored and with nothing to do, rather than get into the typical type of trouble that most teenagers might find themselves in, they put their idle time to good use. Not content with just singing into the bathroom mirror, lip syncing to their favorite records, they became a full fledged group on their own.
After searching the Internet for a perfect name to compliment their new group, the duo went out and made a buzz for themselves that was so loud, Mr. Collipark began to take notice. Signed to Interscope/Collipark Music, the ultimate girly girls recently released their highly anticipated mixtape The World Would Suck Without Girls.
The Vistoso Bosses sat down to talk with Yo! Raps about how they became a group, how they got the group name and why the world would suck without girls.
How did you guys come to form the group, Vistoso Bosses?
Taylah P: We are cousins. We were over out our nana’s house one summer and we were trying to think of things to do and we came up with the idea of doing the group. Music is in our family. Our whole family was into music, aunts, uncles, everybody so it kinda was in us.
Where did you get the name Vistoso Bosses?
Taylah P: Vistoso is Spanish and it means gorgeous. We looked up on the Internet for a word that could describe us and who we are and we stopped at that.
Kelci: And we’re bosses! We took control over our lives and our careers.
How did you guys land your deal?
Kelci: A friend of named CP [laughs] known as Mr. Collipark... he actually wanted to meet us before he took us to meet CP because he found out we weren't signed to a label. He seen us out before and at a lot of Atlanta events and the local Atlanta hot artists would tell him about us. Next thing you know we're at CP's office with our moms and showed him a little show and introduced our style and who we are. Later after we left the office we got a call from his friend and he said we have a deal on the table and he wants to sign us!
How has growing up in Atlanta shaped your sound any?
Kelci: Definitely! You can hear it in the beats we choose. It's shaped the energy and delivery in our music. To us the feel of Atlanta music is like no other. The hard 808's and the energy in the songs. It's only here! We just put some pop, punk, and everything else into it and made it into our own as we do everything!
I know that you’ve just recently dropped your first mixtape The World Would Suck Without Girls.
Taylah P: It was fun! We were able to be very creative with it. It’s out first time doing a mixtape. We had the chance to take any beat that we wanted from any kind of songs, old and new and did our own thing. We have club songs, slow songs, and the hype stuff that we love to do.
How did you guys come up with the name for the mixtape?
Taylah P: [Laughs] We were sitting around one day and we just said, “You know, the world would suck without girls” and the title just stuck.
How did you hook up with Waka Flocka Flame for the single Tatted?
Kelci: Fatboi produced the song. Fatboi and Big Ron got Waka on the song and he fits the song because he’s tatted up and he’s hot right now.
You guys have a real unique style and sound. What do your fans think about you?
Kelci: That’s why they like us. We’re different and we’re not afraid to be different. We’re not trying to be like anybody else and that’s why they like us. We’ll always give them something different
Can you describe the groups sound in one word?
Taylah P: Vistoso! That’s just us. That word just describes us so well.
Kelci: We do whatever we feel. Our style and sound comes from experimentation and just trying new stuff. It’s what you feel like doing.
What can the public expect from the group’s debut album, Confetti? Can you speak about any tracks that will be on the album and who you worked with production wise?
Kelci: This album is going to be a mixture of everything. We had a lot of fun making this! We are actually still in the studio constantly recording and working with tons of producers. We have some Pop, Hip-Hop, Pop-Hop, Alternative!
Taylah P: Some of our songs are just in the moment, fun, carefree songs, then we have bigger songs with a deeper meaning -- for example our song called Superstar, produced by Billy Hume, written by Billy Hume, Marv and Cash and Miranda. It's a song about how you never felt like you could just be that person you knew you were. And we're saying we can relate, but no matter what people say you have to let it all go and show the true you, which is a superstar! Then we have a song like Pretty Girl Swagg, which we have a video for on Worldstarhiphop.com and YouTube.com/VistosoBosses -- our version of Soulja Boy’s Pretty Boy Swag.
Are there any groups or acts that you see today who you admire? If so, who and why?
Kelchi P: We love all of the local Atlanta artists! It's easy for us to admire them because know and see them and respect everything they are doing. They are out here just like we are. All making it together! To see everyone get closer to their dreams together is a good feeling. Of course we still look up to our moms [laughs] -- they get it in!
How big has the Internet been in the success of the group?
Taylah P: The Internet has been a very large part in our success so far! This is how we communicate with our supporters. YouTube especially has played a major role! We saw YouTube as way for us to display our personalities and people could see the chemistry and realize that we are not something that was put together.
Kelci: We really are what we say and our music reflects the same! We were huge fans of MySpace and still are. That helped us display our music as well our images. We talk to people through comments and messages. Now it’s Twitter! It really is us on
@VistosoBosses2! We really wanted to always have a connection to the people supporting us and all of these things helped us do so. The Internet is a major part in our career!
